Wave-pump test for artificial upwelling

A wave pump, in this case, consists of a long hose connected to a floater, which is moving up and down with the waves. The momentum of the floater connected to a valve-stamp, is lifting the water inside the tube and thus generates an upwelling of nutrient rich deep water.

The wave pump is build and provided by Ocean Based Climate Solutions and will be tested off the coast of Gran Canaria. A team from GEOMAR, ULPGC, PLOCAN and Ocean Based Climate Solutions will operate the pump and verify the feasibility of this approach for approx. 10 days.
